The Story of Christianity Justo L. Gonzalez. I am not a theologian, which is why these superb and quite accessible books are perfect for explaining why Christians worship the way they do, who the martyrs were, where the Creeds came from and everything else.

I sure don't remember learning any of this in Sunday school or history class. Maybe it takes growing up and having kids to have appreciation for any kind of history at all.

Edward Tufte "Envisioning Information" should be in everyone's bookshelf. This book applies specifically to conveying large amounts of information in the limited space of a page or monitor screen. The book itself is a work of art, and pulls examples from a huge range of sources throughout history.
The book was shown to me shortly after it was published and my first thought was, "I have that space debris graphics right here in my scrap book, filed under graphics that don't suck."
Envisioning Information

Tufte insists that good information does not need to be dumbed- down for it's audience. If you're numbers are boring, you have the wrong numbers. Read and understand these books.

Since then, I have made a site for our church, Life In Jesus. But this was mostly Dreamweaver

Indian in the Cupboard Lynne Reid Banks. We are reading this to our five-year-old. He looks forward to it every night. I could not recommend a better book to start reading to your children after picture books.

Giant Robot A very cool zine for all kinds of Asian-American pop culture stuff. I've sorta moved on, but I recommend it for people who want to read more about Michele Yeoh, Jet Li or Cibo Matto than Newsweek will give you.
